Our story: Supporting the North East London Autism Group
Welcome to the North East London Autism Group. Discover how we began, our commitment to the autism community, and our unique approach to safety and collaboration. We are here to make a difference, together.

Our beginning: A network for autism support
The North East London Autism Group was founded out of a crucial need for a stable and continuous network for autistic adults, parents, and carers. Recognising that existing services often led to a stop-and-start experience, which is not ideal for autistic individuals, we collaborated with the police to establish a more consistent and supportive environment. Our journey began with a clear vision: to create a dedicated space where everyone affected by autism could find reliable support and resources in Dagenham, United Kingdom.

Working together: Our collaborative approach
Our core strength lies in our collaborative approach. We believe in co-creation, co-design, and co-production of strategies that directly benefit the autism community and ensure safety alongside the police. This involves working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to develop clear aims and objectives, fostering an environment where ideas are shared openly and solutions are built together. This 'over a brew' process simplifies complex issues, making our work transparent and accessible to everyone involved.

Our guiding principles: Community-first values
We are not a charity in the traditional sense, but a community-driven initiative with distinct principles. We ensure that our meetings are free from council members and individuals from mental health services, as we aim for a raw deal focused solely on the needs of autistic individuals. Our work involves collaborating with micro-enterprises, prioritising people's interests, and actively representing views with the British Transport Police Independent Advisory Group. Our commitment is to the community, fostering genuine support and understanding.
"The North East London Autism Group has created a vital network of support. Their commitment to co-creating solutions with the community and police is truly impactful and unique."
